Authorities from the Hurst Police Dept have provided details on a fiery 18 wheeler accident that occurred on Thursday afternoon in the 100 block of Northeast Loop 820.

According to the report, the driver of a pickup truck had stopped on the flyover loop of the highway after believing that there was ice on the road.

After seeing the stopped vehicle ahead, the driver of the semi-trailer tried to swerve past the pickup but his actions resulted in losing control of the rig, causing it to jack-knife in the process.

The truck then careened into a guard rail, with the force of that collision then causing a fuel tank to rupture and spilling diesel fuel on the roadway, which quickly ignited – engulfing the truck in the process.

Both the driver of the pickup truck and the 18 wheeler escaped with non-life threatening personal injuries, while the driver of the truck was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Officials have advised that despite no ice being found on the roadway, drivers were stranded for 5 hours, when the lanes were re-opened at 9 p.m.
