Talk, Text, Crash Reminds Motorists of Distracted Driving Dangers

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has officially launched its “Talk, Text, Crash” campaign aimed at raising awareness about texting and driving in an effort to make Texas roads safer.

If you or someone you love was injured in an accident because a driver was texting and driving, a Fort Worth car accident attorney at our law firm can help get you the compensation you deserve. Call (817) 920-9000 for a free review of your case.

According to a press release from TxDOT, in 2014 the Lone Star State had a six percent increase from the previous year in auto accidents involving distracted drivers. The state recorded 483 fatalities and more than 3,000 serious injuries associated with distracted driving.

Additionally, distracted driving wrecks and fatalities are greatest among drivers ages 16 to 24, followed by drivers over the age of 45.

The campaign aims to remind motorists that driving requires your complete attention, and anything that pulls your focus away from that task, even if for one second, greatly increases the risks for you, your loved ones and everyone on the roads.

While cell phone use is the most recognized culprit in distracted driving, there are also a number of other behind-the-wheel activities that are just as dangerous, including:

  • Eating and drinking
  • Checking email
  • Doing your makeup or your hair
  • Watching a video

  • Messing with your navigation system
  • Adjusting the radio
  • Reading
  • Texting

As you head out on the roads this summer, remember “Talk, Text, Crash.” If all drivers made a conscious effort not to pick up their phones or to partake in other distracting activities while behind the wheel, Texas roads would be a much safer place for everyone.

As the go-to distracted driving auto accident lawyers in Texas, we know the tragedy that these kind of accidents can bring to a family and we continually fight for those who have been injured or died in accidents caused by distracted drivers.
