The victim has been identified as 24-year-old Sylvia Zazueta. She is reportedly a mother of three, including an 8-month-old baby.

Police say the deadly accident happened just before 2:00 p.m. at the Star Food Mart, located near the intersection of Lancaster Avenue and Riverside Drive.

Police say the driver, Isaac Adams, was fleeing the scene of a previous hit-and-run crash at Riverside Drive and U.S. Highway 287 when his truck careened into the convenience store. Investigators said the truck was traveling between 80 and 100 miles per hour when Adams lost control and slammed into the store.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud boom following the crash followed by a bunch of screaming. At least five other people who were in the store were hospitalized, but authorities say none are listed in critical condition.

Police believe Adams was under the influence of a narcotic. He is now facing several felony charges, including intoxication manslaughter.

If You Witness an Accident

If you witness a hit-and-run accident, you should not try to confront the driver. If the driver is violent or angry, you risk putting yourself and others in harms way.

Instead, if at all possible, you are encouraged to write down the license plate number of the car that drove off and immediately call 911.
